Drum roll please…..!!!
Da dara da da da daaaa!
Well here we are once again, but hopefully this will be for the last time in a very long time. Over the last few weeks I have been working closely with Kate from Kate Ranfurly Design to completely makeover the branding of The Spanish Bluebell to represent something that I am proud to call my own. Kate is a total gem and it didn’t the long for us to get on the same wavelength to help create something that represents what I hope The Spanish Bluebell will become. I had seen some of her previous work for New Zealand’s blogging community #brunchclub, one of my blogging babes Baby Rebel and a few other New Zealand bloggers like Laura Laura, High Tea with Dragons, Beauty Lust and Jordanne-Leigh. I love her design style so of course I was so excited when she agreed to take on this project for me.
The whole process was a heck of a lot simpler than I thought it would be and it also helped me to properly define my intentions in blogging. There was quite a lot of back and forth ( 78 emails later) making sure we were both understanding what the other meant but I am really happy with the end designs!
So let me tell you about the branding process. First Kate got me to fill in a Brand Questionnaire to help get a bit of a better idea about me, my blog and what I was wanting.
One of the activities in the questionnaire was coming up with the words to express what The Spanish Bluebell is all about, essential what would become my tag line. I had a long think about this as it is quite important to be able to sum up the purpose of your blog with a few words. I thought about why I write and what prompts me to write about things. Luckily I have also been working through the A Beautiful Mess Blog Life Course (well actually the old one, not this new one) and had some idea of what my tag line would be and all I had to do was explore different options of how to say it and how that would fit best with my blogs name. Well “exploring” was a good way to start and it led to my tag line of “Exploring the Beautiful things in this world.” Exploring these beautiful things is essentially why I write my blog and it just seemed like the perfect description.
Next was the logo design. Of course I knew there had to be some representation on a bluebell in the design and I knew I wanted a handwriting-like font. I also wanted to make sure that it would be clean and simple and would fit with the current colour scheme (Black & White) of my theme. Kate incorporated the travel aspect of The Spanish Bluebell with the compass outline and dashes and the beauty of the bluebells to add femininity and represent the beauty aspect. I LOVE the logo design and it fits the “image” in my head in one of those this-is-what-I-was-hoping-for-but-kinda-didn’t-know-it ways.
Next was to design the social media and blog headers. Kate asked me to send her a list of 10 things that I wanted included, and of course I made sure they are things that I write about or that represent me!
P.S You can see the moodboard and (very soon) the logo concepts on Kate’s website but I wanted to keep this short and sweet.
