Woohoo!!! *excited dance* Hello everyone! Today you are in for a very awesome read from a wonderful new blogging friend of mine Liz from Passport Packed! She is the second of my guest bloggers for Spanish Month and will be telling you a little bit about the life of a Kiwi expat in Spain. Enjoy reading!
I’ve been living here for just over a year now and I absolutely love it.
I teach English here , as an Auxiliar de Conversacion (Assistant English teacher) and also work part time for a Food Tour company as a communications executive.
It’s not a particularly rich life, but it’s a good life.
I make enough money to live well, eat well, and travel often. It’s all really I want, and probably the reason why I’m still here, having recently celebrated my 1-year anniversary living in Spain.
So let me share a few reasons why I love living in Spain so much…
1. It’s Beautiful
Spain is just a gorgeous country. Like, I walk around Madrid each day and I still can’t believe how lucky I am to live in such a stunning city.
2. The Food
Spanish food is actually amazing, I don’t think I will ever get sick of Spanish ham (jamon iberico), and the concept of getting a free tapa (yes, FREE) with every drink is amazing. I eat out a lot in Spain, probably more than I should – it’s no wonder I’ve found myself working for a Food Tour company…
3. The Travel
It’s great to have a base in Europe in order to travel on weekends. Since being based here I travelled to Morocco, Portugal, Turkey and more… But more often than not, I choose just to travel within Spain, because it’s not only cheaper but it has so much to offer. Every city has something unique and there’s always a new local festival to catch. My favourites include San Sebastian, Seville, Granada and well, Barcelona is still my favourite touristy city in Europe.
4. The Culture
Although Spanish people can be loud and abrupt sometimes, their culture is really quite beautiful. I love the way they spend so much of their time outside – on any evening you’ll see entire families out for a walk or relaxing in the park. They also have some amazing traditions and festivals; from the crazy tomato fights at La Tomatina to the more conservative processions held nationwide over Easter. They are incredible and completely unique to Spain.
5. The Shopping
Now after that kind of life-is-beautiful reason, lets get superficial… Spain actually has the BEST shopping ever. After all, it’s the birthplace of superstores such as ZARA and Mango – which are both always on-trend and really reasonably priced (here – not always outside of Spain). It’s no wonder Spanish people generally look impeccable all the time.
Well there you have it!! Can you see why I am so madly in love with Spain? (Well I hope so. I did create a whole month just for it on my blog didn’t I?)
