Well hi there! As I hope you are aware by now, from the previous guest posts, I just come back from a trip to Australia with one of my best friends from my Auckland school days. So while I am still away (giving myself a couple days grace to get back into life in New Zealand) I have the last of my guest bloggers Dani to share some movies that will spark of your Wanderlust! Sarah-Elizabeth xoxo
Movies are a powerful source of travel inspiration and some places become even more interesting after they’re shown as part of a story told on the silver screen. There are many movies worth mentioning, but here’s a list of 7 movies to spark your wanderlust:
1. Begin Again
Young songwriter Gretta teams up with disgraced music producer Dan for an ambitious project: to record an album in public locations around New York City. Her songs are inspired by a recent break-up with singer Dave and are powerfully bittersweet, a delicate balance of heart ache and healing magic. Written and directed by John Carney, who’s also responsible for the beautiful musical Once, Begin Again features NYC as one of its main characters, a welcoming muse shinning bright on a summer day, inviting you to experience the weird déjà vu of visiting such an iconic city for the first time but feeling like you already knew it quite well all along.
18 years after Jesse and Celine met on a train to Vienna in Before Sunrise, and 9 years after they reunited on the streets of Paris in Before Sunset, we follow them along this time while on a holiday in the Greek Peloponnese peninsula. The previous movies are great too, but the location chosen for the third chapter in their relationship is truly remarkable. The colour palette rich in cool tones matches the blue sea surrounding the peninsula to Celine’s dress and Jesse’s shirt, and the dialogue is just as compelling as the idyllic scenery, from the landscapes of the Messinian part of Mani, all along to the coast of Messinia and the foot of Mt Taygetos.
