An ode for my Best Friend
Tomorrow is your birthday, and I hope you didn’t forget
it will be the end to your teenage years, but it feels like we left them a while back.
This time last year neither one of use could have expected
that yesterday would be the first day you were a part of the Mother in Mothers Day.
Your daughter has your eyes and your cheeky smile,
and I know you will raise her to be as loving and kind as yourself.
When we were young tomorrow was always a day we would dream about.
Tomorrow we would fly out of the country and head to Europe.
We would stroll the streets of Paree, roam through the ancient castles of Spain
and live in a big villa in Italy. (Okay maybe that last one was just me.)
We both have the travel bug but you were the one with a passport full of stamps.
Every time you went away I would eagerly await for tomorrow
when you would come back and tell me all sorts of wonderful stories.
When I moved away tomorrow was always
just one day closer to when I could see your face again.
We used to live for tomorrow,
because tomorrow we would be going places.
Tomorrow is a place where our imaginations could fly free,
we would dream of Kings & Queens, revolutions and the ground we stood on.
Tomorrow is a place where each day you will grow and learn,
it is a place where both God and I have your back.
In tomorrow we will both be who we are meant to be,
but that is not a tomorrow that is here yet.
Tomorrow you will still be beautiful and unique
because no one could ever be like you to me.
One day, tomorrow will be today, and I pray to God every day that you will still be in my tomorrow.
