Lush Fresh Handmade Cosmetics is an awesome cruelty-free cosmetics company that originates from the United Kingdom. I feel like my love for Lush products and their values was predestined, as they were officially launched in the year of my birth. Lush is my all time favourite company to buy my beauty products from, and I buy almost everything I use for my beauty routine from them. The handmade aspect and ability to try products in-store before you buy them, is one of the things that most stands out to me about the Lush. Although the products are essentially the same in their ingredients and make up, they are unique to each other in shape size and colour as the people who make them in the Lush Kitchen mould them to their own style.
With over 900 stores in over 40 countries in the world, Lush has taken the beauty industry by storm, and has parted a lot of my money from me because of their amazing products. Lush products have permanently changed my thoughts on the beauty industry and revolutionised the way I treat my skin. I feel like I haven’t raved about Lush on The Spanish Bluebell enough, so today I wanted to share with you my Lush Favourites.
Hair products are something new to me from Lush. I started out as just a bath bomb girl and have recently delved into the world of Lush Hair care. I have been using the American Cream Conditioner for the last couple of months and have loved how soft it leaves my hair feeling. The smell reminds me of a vanilla strawberry milkshake.
The Trichomania Solid Shampoo is such a recent addition to my Lush collection that I can’t technically call it a favourite as I have only used it once! However, as you may know, I am OBSESSED with everything coconut and the smell of this shampoo is so delicious! As I have curly and dryish hair this is the shampoo that was recommended for me by my local lushies in Christchurch. I can say with the one use my curls have developed a lot better and my hair smells super coconut-y.
Another recent addition to my lush favourites is the BB Seaweed fresh face mask. It’s the very first face mask I have tried from lush but I have to say it has surpassed all but one of my current mask collection. It’s also the very first mask that I have tried which is freshly made. The BB Seaweed mask was recommended to me for my Normal-Dry skin. I use this once a week which means it’s taking me a while to use it up. Seeing as they are fresh and have a use by date I should probably use it twice a week! At $16.50 for a 60 gram fresh handmade mask, it is definitely worth it!
The Tea Tree Water toner water spray is one of my most used Lush products! I am completely obsessed with this toner! I use it rather religiously day and night as well as before doing my makeup. Even though it says it works best for oily and acne prone skin, which I don’t really have, I still love to use it to prevent breakouts and clear them up a lot faster. For example just yesterday I had the hugest pimple developing so I use this baby and some of my Queen Helene Mint Julip mask and this morning it was gone! I’m onto my 2nd bottle of this amazing toner and I definitely feel that it is worth buying the largest size of 250ml for $21.90. I bought my first bottle, which was the small 100ml one, in April and I probably have about 10ml left to use. That’s a good 4 months of everyday use. (The big one pictured is my backup.)
Breath of Fresh Air is another one of the Lush toners and I love it for refreshing my skin on a hot day, or really any time of the day. I like to carry it in my purse just for that purpose. This is a great toner for you skin if the Tea Tree Water toner isn’t for you as it still helps balance your skin’s texture and tone.
Lush makeup was something I got into surprisingly late in my Lush obsession, especially considering how much I love makeup! One of the things I love about the Lush makeup is the names they give them and each comes with a wee description. I still haven’t tried many of their makeup products as I already own more makeup than I wear in a month! However these 3 makeup items pictured have quickly become some of my most favourite products. The first items I purchased were Dynamic, which is a light golden-peach liquid eyeliner, and Confident, a dark plum-mauve coloured liquid lipstick. I also more recently bought the Feeling Younger skin tint after reading Kirsty-Leigh’s post on Makeup Obsessives about using it for highlighting. Let’s just say I have fallen in love with it as a highlighter and it is another product I have become obsessed with. If they ever discontinued it I would be heartbroken! I have also bought the Santa Baby Lip tint (not pictured) which I don’t use often but is great when applied precisely with a stiff lip brush or use it as a blush.
Confident is a great lip colour for winter and it has a great little doe-foot applicator which makes precision in applying it a bit easier. You can also use it as a cream blusher for a more intense blush look.
“Your CONFIDENT nature shines through today. People admire you all around for your self –belief. Some may feel irritated by your assured manner, as they might not be feeling so great themselves. That said, your focus should be on your certainty as it is making you strong.
You might need a little bit of self-belief today, and that is why your subconscious is asking you for some confidence. Wear this colour to give you the assurance you may need at this moment, and let it remind you of what you require as you continue your day.
Feeling CONFIDENT is key, and you have this in spades. What a talent to possess today! It can help you achieve anything! Stay bold and great things will come of it.”
I love to use Dynamic as an eyeliner for work as it is so subtle. Sometimes i will do a small thin line and other times I will blend it out to put all over my eye lids. However, I am still having problems trying not to get it onto my eyelashes!
“Today your strength is that you are DYNAMIC in all that you do. It will give you the ability to be energetic and effective in your actions. You have the drive to achieve and it is wide-ranging today. You are putting your mind to action and getting things moving and shaking. This can only be perceived as your weakness if those around you are not as DYNAMIC as you. They may feel intimidated by your pace.
Do you feel the need for some DYNAMIC and to the point behaviour today? Is there something you want to achieve? Do it with dynamism and be effective. It is just want your inner voice is asking you for today.
Today, the talent you have or need is: ‘DYNAMIC!’ Make waves with this aspirational colour and wear it to enhance your spirit. You know what you are today – to the point, effective and able to achieve in all that you do.”
I use Feeling younger for so many things! Sometimes I will use it before my foundation to give me a more intense glowing look. Normally, though, I will use it on all the usual highlight areas (top of cheek bones, cupids bow, under eyebrows, and on my nose) as well as under my eyes as a reflective concealer. Even though it is them most expensive highlighter I have bought, at $20.50 for 7g, a little bit goes a long way. Like I said before I don’t think my makeup routine could live without it!!
I managed to get a limited edition 45 gram pot of the Dream Cream when they were changing a few of the ingredients. It was really great for my dry skin and I went through it within a month! This was a great way to try it (or you can always ask your local lushies for a sample) as it normally comes in a 240 gram tub for $34.90.
First Snow is a Limited Edition, Christmas product with a citrusy, champagne scent. It is basically a sparkly powder which you dust over your skin, or if you are like me, use as a really sparkly highlighter. (I forgot to picture First Snow here but you can find in my 2014 Christmas Haul).
The Snow Fairy Sparkle bar is another Christmas Limited Edition product which has the same scent as their most popular Christmas Shower gel, Snow Fairy. I love using this when I am going out to a party or for a girls night out/in. It’s really moisturising on my skin too, and a little bit is all you need to have the scent on you all day or night!
Bath bombs were my first love at Lush. As I first started getting into Lush while I was in my first year of university, the bath range was the most obvious way to go as it has the most affordable products for poor students. The bath range prices are from $4.90 to $12.90. Seeing as it’s been almost a year now since I first started my Lush addiction I have tried almost all of their bath bombs, which means it is a bit hard to narrow down a few favourites.
Xmas Kisses, and Lord of Misrule (pictured above) are ones from he Christmas Collection 204 that I missed out on last year, and obviously I still haven’t tried them. However, they smell absolutely amazing, especially Xmas Kisses as it has one of my favourite scents which is Cinnamon. I have actually tried Granny Takes a Dip before and absolutely LOVED it that I had to buy it again!! The ginger scent and awesome colours just draw me in!
Just to name a few of my other favourites that aren’t limited editions; Rose Queen Bath Bomb, Rose Jam Bubbleroon, Brightside Bubble Bar, Tisty Toasty Bath Bomb, Ceridwen’s Cauldron Bath Melt, Fizzbanger Bath Bomb, Floating Island Bath Melt, You’ve Been Mangoed Bath Melt and the Avobath Bath Bomb. Special mention also to the amazingness that is the Bohemian Soap as its lemony goodness washes my hands everyday at home!
Hands and Feet
My hands and feet were always something I never really took enough care of before finding these awesome products from Lush. As a barista and waitress my hands and feet can get quite dry from the heat of the coffee machine or just from being on my feet all day.
My holiest of holy grail products to counteract this would be the Lemony Flutter cuticle cream. I have almost finished this baby (which makes me sad) but it has lasted me for so long! It is really great for all the dry places so I use it on my cuticles, hands, elbows and feet to give them a moisture boost. In my opinion it is definitely worth the $19.90 I payed for the small 5og pot. Back when I bought it last year that was a huge things for me to spend my money on as a student. However, it was definitely worth the investment for my hands and feet!
More recently I have also tried out the Helping Hands hand cream. Even though the Lemony Flutter will always be number 1, the scent is too strong for me to use while at work. Instead I have opted to keep helping hands in my work bag as the light floral scent is not to powerful to get me in trouble with H & S. A small amount also goes a long way to soften my hands and instantly give them back some moisture. Another great thing is that you can buy it in a small pump bottle ($12.90 for 45g) which is way more convenient for travel.
Last in the hands and feet department, but not least, is the Volcano Foot Mask. Although I have not had miraculous results with this foot mask, it is a really good exfoliator for when my feet are really dry and when they occasionally start to crack. It also keeps my feet nice and fresh which totally helps when you work on your feet all day. At $16.50 for a 125g pot you will get around 8-10 applications, depending on how big your feet are and how much of the mask you apply.
Shower Gel and Perfume
The last couple of products that make it onto my favourites list of Lush products are the Snow Fairy Shower Gel and the Vanillary Solid Perfume. Of course Snow Fairy is Limited Edition and it’s pretty amazing that I still have some of it left since I bought it at Christmas. The Vanillary Solid Perfume, which is in the old packaging, is my absolute favourite perfume that Lush sells. I was so disappointing when they changed the packaging as I find the newer tins much harder to use. However it is still an amazing perfume!
What are some of your favourite Lush products?
