Lights, Camera, Lashes!!!!
That’s right, today I have an exciting new brand to share with you that I have been lucky enough to try out. Although I haven’t used false lashes a lot in my tutorials and posts in the past they are definitely something I want to start wearing more. I guess the main reason which has stopped me from using them much (apart from the stigma that they are hard to apply) is the fact that there is not always a lot of information on whether the lashes are cruelty-free.
“SARAH JEAN adhesive is anti-allergenic, latex free and water-soluble. SARAH JEAN lashes are vegan friendly, cruelty free, synthetic – light weight, feathery and oh so natural looking. The tweezer applicator tool, once a beautician’s secret makes applying the lashes even easier, and through SARAH JEAN is now widely available to everyone.“
That is why I was so excited when I got in contact with Sarah from Sarah Jean Lashes to try one of their lash kits out. The 3 piece kit comes with one set of False Eyelashes in your choice of style (I chose SJ001), Waterproof Eyelash Adhesive (in clear or black) and a pair of Lash Applicator Tweezers. The 3 piece kit costs $52 which is pretty reasonable as you then have the glue and applicator tweezers for next time.
I chose the SJ001 style as I like false lashes that have an invisible lash band, and the style was also one of the most natural looking and enhanced my natural lashes beautifully. There are 4 other styles that you can choose from, ranging from a natural enhancement for daywear to a bold, glam look for a night out. I also chose the clear glue instead of the black, as it is perfect for people who struggle to apply their lashes or aren’t always the most accurate on their first go.
I really have to praise the applicator tweezers to as they are so handy as they fit the curve of your eyelid really well! Plus you can turn them to use the tip to get the lashes in at the base of your natural lashes and the use the clamp to press them together.
Funny story about the first time I attempted to wear the lashes…..
Okay I definitely had to share this we story with you, so you realise how human I am.
When I first received the lashes in the mail I had a cold so I decided to wait until I wasn’t sick to try them out. Anyway post cold, still in recovery mode I decided to try out the lashes and made the most rookie mistake ever. As you have seen in the photos above, the lash glue comes in a mascara bottle and you apply it with the mascara wand. My brain was still a bit slow and I immediately though “Cool, so I just apply the glue to my top and bottom natural lashes and it will stick the false lashes to them.” Oh my gosh, I have no clue why I thought that was a smart idea!!! In my defense it does say in the instructions to apply it to your natural lashes, but I don’t know why I applied it to my bottom lashes too!
Lesson learned: Make sure you use your common sense otherwise you’ll end up gluing your lashes together and almost gluing your eyes shut!
The next time I applied I had better success with the glue and did try applying the glue to my lashes, just not using as much glue. Plus I was completely recovered from my cold so that helped! I found it easier to apply the glue to the lash band and then after using the tweezers, to brush a little bit of the glue and my normal mascara through my lashes. Then I lined my lash line with black liner to cover up any of the lash band that was peeping out.
I would definitely suggest checking out the Tips & Advice page on the Sarah Jean website as there is so much handy information on how to apply the lashes and on creating a couple of looks with different lash styles. I would definitely recommend these lashes as they cover all the bases and stay on for ages. The only reason they came off was because I had to go to bed!
Do you wear false lashes? What brands do your wear and have you tried the Sarah Jean Lashes before?
