||EASTER FRIDAY|| Jesus said “It is finished.” John 19:30 || He gave himself as a living sacrifice so that our sins would be forever paid for. He took our sin upon himself so that God’s justice could be satisfied. It is a moment in history that will span all eternity and it is a moment of remembrance.
This whole week has been one of remembrance for me. Normally I would be sitting in the middle of the Good Friday service at Southern Easter Camp with my youth group girls. We would be listening to the Easter Camp band Satellite (check out their awesome music here). However this year it has been spent with the few of us who have remained at the hostel ending with a worship jam session tonight.
In the lead up to this Easter Sunday I have had many celebrations and remembrance times. At my college during our church service I took part in communion as well as taking communion in our own little service at my hostel the other morning. This morning I also attended a church service commemorating Jesus’ life where we were asked by the pastor, “What would you have said to Jesus if you had been standing in front of him as he hung on the cross?”
That question really made me stop and reflect. What would I have said? He used the analogy of a vegetarian protesting the killing of animals in a crowd of South Africans eating meat at a Braai (South African barbecue). To be honest from my immediate reaction I don’t know if I would have stood up for my beliefs or not. More than likely I would have stayed quiet. But the more I thought about it, the stronger my conscious became and I realised that if I follow Jesus’ instructions the way I do, I would have just prayed for courage from the Holy Spirit and for God to protect me. As I lay down my cutting of Rosemary on the coffin I said “Jesus I believe in you, I believe that you are the son of God. I pray for a faith like yours.”
So today, before the Resurrection celebration on Sunday, I ask you the same question the pastor asked this morning.
“What would you have said to Jesus if you had been standing in front of him as he hung on the cross?”
