*Special thanks to Thomson Holidays for helping me with this post
Ever since I was a young girl Egypt has always been alluring to me. This probably has something to do with the fact that my mum used to show me movies like The Prince of Egypt and when I was older, Indiana Jones: The Raiders of the Lost Ark. The thought of travelling to any country that has a very rich culture and old history just gets my wanderlust senses all excited! You put the word “Ancient” in front of a country and I will definitely want to travel there. Whether that is Ancient Greece, Rome, China, or Egypt, I am so there!
and all that it has to offer is definitely high on my travel dream list. So today I have decided to share with you little list of how I am planning on doing that someday.
Thought: Funnily enough as I write this post I am watching a new TV Drama based in Cairo, Egypt called The ANZAC Girls.
The Nile River Cruise
At just over 6.6 thousand kilometres, how could I pass up an opportunity to sail down the longest river in the world? (Which for your reference is like going up and down New Zealand about 5 and a half times). I remember learning about the basic facts of geography (the longest, biggest, widest, tallest etc.) in primary school and the Nile was always one of the ones that stuck in my brain (along with Mount Everest). According to Viator more than 240 boats sail up and down the Nile so it won’t be too tricky finding an affordable cruise to get to see some of this majestic river!
Red Sea Snorkeling
As you may have picked up from my last travel dream post on South America, I really LOVE turtles. That means a day of snorkeling in the Red Sea to see some of these amazing creatures in real life is definitely high on my experiencing Egypt priorities. Snorkeling is a pretty affordable activity and also something I haven’t done before! Plus, look how clear that sea is!
Learning about the culture, history and language
Living with the locals and exploring the world they live in is always the best way to learn more about a culture and country. For every new country I visit I always endeavour to learn how to speak a little bit of the language, learn about its history and experience life as a local. People watching and listening probably sound like a weird activity to be doing. However, being around my Egyptian friend I hear Arabic spoken and as a Linguistics major it is quite a fascinating language to listen to. I love languages and learning about new cultures, need I say more?
Going for a camel ride
Now I’m not much of a rider even when it comes to horses. That’s not saying that I have never ridden horses before, just not that I’m sure if I’m any good. In saying that I have to have a least a go at riding on of these unusual but awesomely humped animals. Camels are pretty much a staple in any movie set in Egypt so if offered the opportunity to do this I will definitely say yes!
Exploring the oh-so-famous Giza Pyramids
Although last on my list, there is no way I could even contemplate leaving Egypt without getting a glimpse of the pyramids! Since I was a kid I’ve been seeing pictures of these gigantic triangle things (as I used to call them). Every time I see those pictures I can’t even begin to imagine how big they really are.
Well my friends that is just a snippet of things I want to do in Egypt. Have you ever visited Egypt and think there is something else I should add to my list?
So what are you most excited about for your travel dream experiencing Egypt?
