Today is an exciting day as I have had the opportunity to partner with Hachette NZ on the Karen Rose Book Tour. I’m lucky last in line as we celebrate the release of “Every Dark Corner” her latest book. Make sure you check out all the other posts by some other awesome New Zealand bloggers!
If you have never heard of Karen Rose but are a fan of Thriller books (with a side helping of romance) then you must read “Every Dark Corner”. Karen Rose knows how to handle the writing of sensitive topics like Human Trafficking and brings it to the attention of the public with a strong female protagonist. For readers if the previous books in the series you’ll have met some of the characters before, but “Every Dark Corner” is a great stand-alone book.
“After being shot on an under cover mission in the human trafficking ring in Cincinnati, Special Agent “Decker” wakes from his coma, with one thought, “The children!” Unable to speak at first, Agent Kate Coppola who is new on the job in Cincinnati, makes it her mission to find out what it is that Decker found out before he was shot.
Piece by piece she puts the puzzle together to the crimes happening in their city, as well as making connections about Decker’s mysterious past. When someone tries to kill Decker in his hospital bed, he and Kate realise that the children are not the only ones whose lives are threatened, and that they must stop at nothing to hunt down the perpetrators. And danger is waiting in every dark corner.”
The prologue sets you up for the way Karen Rose gets into the minds of people and manages to write them down. How she manages to get out the racing thoughts of the human mind and still have them make sense astounds me. “Every Dark Corner” is a gutsy window into the world of human trafficking and shows the internal struggles of emotions and thoughts.
Reading the victim’s “diary entries” takes you through the emotions of fear, hatred, disgust, hurt, and hopelessness. You feel bits of what the characters feel through Rose’s writing. You will find yourself wanting them to succeed, be free and take control of their lives, but also understand their struggle too. The strong characters of Decker and Kate move the story along. The plot has many twists and turns that keep a reader’s interest, as well as the allure of a budding romance between two of the main characters.
If “Every Dark Corner” sounds like the book for you I recommend setting yourself down into a comfy spot for the weekend to read this mammoth of a book. Try to read it in one go as the story will be kept fresh in your head, and not like me who read it bit by bit. As I write this post I am about to finish the last chapter, so ta ta for now as I don’t want to give any spoilers while I read this last chapter!
