Looking to make thoughtful and affordable gifts this Christmas….?
Well, have I got an easy gift DIY for you. This summer I am saving up for a car so the majority of my money is going towards saving for that. However, I still wanted to give gifts to my close friends and family. The idea started from a gift a friend gave me of an encouraging verse in a frame. Being someone who likes crafts and artistic things I thought this would be the perfect gift idea for me to use this year for Christmas and share on the blog.
What you need:
A pencil and eraser
Fine liner pens, Gel Pens and Colouring pencils or felts
A Sketch pad with a surface suitable for Pen and Ink, Calligraphy, Technical Pen, Pencil and Coloured Pencil
Pinterest board of ideas (like my Typography board) or your imagination
Cheap frames (you can get these at The Warehouse, a dollar store, or Kmart)
Some artistic ability
What to do:
Firstly, write a list of all the people you want to make gifts for and then write ideas for the frames. You’ll need to go out after this to buy all your frames and supplies.
Once you have your supplies, cut pieces of the sketch paper to the size of your frame. Then cut a guide piece for the width of the inner borders so that none of your design is being covered.
Pick a design for each person. Make sure to draw it in with pencil first in case you make any mistakes. The go over your lines with a fine liner pen. Let the ink dry for 10 minutes before erasing the pencil lines. Eraser in small circular motions. You can leave the design black and white or choose to add a bit of colour with pencil, gel pens or felts.
And you are done! Just wrap it up with some nice wrapping paper, add a card and give it to them for Christmas.
Will you try out this gift idea this Christmas? What is your favourite design?
