You may remember my post from the beginning of September where I talked about the challenge I was setting myself to stop spending and start saving some money so that I will be able to fulfill my dream of travelling back to Spain. Well I also mentioned at the time that I would start of with some steps to help me succeed. Well for you today, here are my first 5 Steps which you can do if you too are intending to follow along in this journey:
Step 1: Unsubscribe from all makeup, fashion and entertainment emails
Seriously!! I would literally get like 50 emails a day just from this I had signed up for. What’s more are lot of them made it very tempting to just cave in and buy everything I liked! There goes my credit card limit! Make sure you unsubscribe from every single one!!! I mean it. The easiest way to do this is just unsubscribe from the mailing lists as you received the emails. (Come on I am way to lazy to go back through my entire Inbox)
I am actually only currently subscribed to one account where I have to pay for movies monthly on Quickflix. The only other Pay monthly accounts I have are for my phone (I kind of need to keep that one) and for my Sponsor children (definitely need to keep those!) I have never subscribed to a beauty box (thanks goodness for my credit card) and have only ever ordered one Memebox. (Which is still to arrive and I ordered it in July).Bye bye Quickflix. It was really nice while it lasted!
Step 3: Do surveys to earn vouchers for movies, beauty, books (etc.)
Surveys are a great way to earn money for vouchers. I am a member of Valued Opinions and have had hundreds of dollars worth of vouchers from them for Hoyts, Farmers, Mighty Ape, Subway, Wow HD and Rebel Sports. These will be great for my no extra spending as I can use them when in need of extreme socialisation activities, special events, gifts or have run out of a particular essential skin care product (Farmers).
Step 4: Only buy clothes from OpShops or handmake them
That last bit will be another challenge in itself. Thank God my mum bought me a sewing machine one birthday so I can use that if I do need to go as far as making my own clothes. I wil however extend this limit to K-mart as well.
Step 5: Stop buying food and drink when out and about or at university.
I have spent waaaaayyyyy too much money on food and drink this past year. Supermarket food and drink only now when I do my grocery shopping. This is probably going to be the biggest challenge on this list for me as I like food and associate food with socialising.
Well those are all the steps I have for now. If you have any other suggestions for Steps that I could add to my list olease share them with me below in the comments!
So, this should be easy right?
