Back in 2007 I was pretty distant from the world outside New Zealand and wasn’t connected at all with Social Media or what was going on with all the famous people. I could probably name about 5 celebrities and they were either dead or Michael Jackson. Now, however, with being super connected to social media and being older I could name about 20 celebrities who I think are pretty awesome. Just a few of my favourites are Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez, Ed Sheeran, Tori Kelly, and James Corden. However, today I want to talk to you about 3 of my all time favourite celebrities who inspire me.
As an actress in both film and stage, a singer, an author, theatre director and author, Julie Andrews is one very accomplished lady. Ever since watching her in The Sound of Music and Mary Poppins when I was a young girl, I have been captivated by her persona and her incredible voice. Other movies and shows that she has starred in, such as The Princess Diaries, Shrek and My Fair Lady. Although I didn’t say it before, and you may or may not know but Miss Andrews is one funny lady! I was watching some videos on Youtube of her and Carol Burnett and I just couldn’t help but crack up during this whole video celebrating their 25 years of friendship. Okay I have to admit that it actually took me triple the time it should have to write this post. I ended up watching/listening videos of those two for 2 hours straight. Both have incredible voices! Anyway it really has always been Julie’s skillful singing voice that draws me to her, but I also love how she always seems so proper and wise yet can have an audience in stitches of laughter. She is someone who knows how to work hard in life, succeed in life and yet also enjoy the journey.
“It is not enough to reach for the brass ring. You must also enjoy the merry-go-round.” Julie Andrews
J. K. Rowling
One of the reasons I always wanted to be a writer was to inspire other people in the way that J. K Rowling inspired me as a kid. The Harry Potter series was a huge part of my growing up and is still a bit part of my life to this day. The thought that someone had imagined this whole other world that seemed like it could be real and had the power to give a young girl like me the confidence that I could do great things no matter my background. J. K. Rowling herself is a very inspirational person. The more I learn about her and her life before Harry Potter the more I admire her and the hard work she did to get where she is today. (And yes I did just watch another Harry Potter documentary while writing this post.) With her success Jo has done amazing things with the world of Harry Potter and her charity organisation Lumos.
Made famous (to me and the world) by her lead role in Harry Potter as Hermione Granger, Emma Watson is a celebrity who would not be where she is if it weren’t for J. K. Rowling. In saying that though with her wonderful personality, amazing skills and talents I do believe she would still have been famous. Emma has always been a bit of a role model to me as I connected a lot with her character in Harry Potter but also as I have watched her grow up and still do normal people things like completing university. Her style is another thing to be admired. I just love how she can carry off anything from the most classy of looks to something more edgy. In the recent years with the work she has done as a gender equality spokeswoman for #HeForShe and UN Women she has grown more and more inspirational me.
“I don’t want the fear of failure to stop me from doing wha I really care about.” Emma Watson
One day I hope that I can be an inspirational person to someone else. I’m not aiming for fame and fortune but just to know that I have inspired someone to do something gives me warm fuzzies.
