It’s time for December’s#PinterestLife! As December is all about Christmastime for me I wanted to share a few of my favourite Christmas crafts that I have tried or am wanting to try! This is just a small collection of my favourite christmas crafts but you can check out the full collection on my Pinterest Christmas Crafts Board.
Cinnamon has to be my absolute favourite scent and flavour of all time. I love it in my hot chocolates and as a burning scent for candles. However something nice that you can do around Christmas, if you don’t like to burn candles but still want something to scent your house, is to create your own scented pinecones. Unfortunately it does take 4 to 6 weeks for the scent to become properly ingrained in the pinecones but even just having cinnamon water sprayed on the before baking them in the oven should do the trick!
Pinecones are a definite favourite for decorating in my house this year. As I have been working in the Christchurch Botanical Gardens I have had the chance to collect numerous pinecones to use for decorating this festive season. An easy favourite is spray painting the pinecones, but something I want to try out is this pinecone and burlap garland. I have a lot of small pinecones which would be perfect for doing this, and really you can customise it any way you want!
3. Twig Stars
Something really simple that looks gorgeous, but still gives that rustic natural effect, is creating these twig stars. I bought some red berry tree decorations from the warehouse and red ribbon to stick to some of the twig stars to give them even more variation. These only take a couple of minutes each to put together and you can hang them on your tree, on the walls or as table decorations.
These clay decorations are such a cool idea for more personalised tree decorations. I like the whole keys idea as you could do so many things such as first home, apartment, and car as well as imprints of hands of your children and family members. These will also last for such a long time and you can get the kids involved too!
Another great DIY Christmas craft to get the kids involved in is this stained glass nativity scene. All you have to do it cut out the black outline for them and the pieces of coloured cellophane, then they can just stick the pieces on and hang it in a window. The great thing about this is that you can make it larger or smaller depending on your window size and it looks beautiful when the light shines through it!
6. Cross Wreath
Although this link isn’t to an actual DIY, I do love this Christmas decoration as an alternative to the typical wreath you will find on most doors. You could easily make this with some driftwood for the cross and then just adding all the ribbons, flowers and green leafy bits to created your own unique piece.
Snowflakes are really beautiful creations. For someone like me who lives in the Southern Hemisphere, and doesn’t get a white Christmas, these paper snowflake designs help create beautiful looking snowflakes to add a white Christmas feeling to your home. Last year these were the first Christmas decorations in our house and they added just a touch of elegance! Just watch out if you have a cat as they like to play with them! You can create c=garlands and beautiful mobiles with these snowflakes. Another alternative is creating snowflakes on your windows with a hot glue gun. You can find the tutorial here.
I don’t know about you but I have never really liked the look of the typical tree stand you get with fake or live Christmas trees. They always just take a little bit away from the magic of the Christmas tree itself. That is why i have always loved they idea of a tree skirt as they just add extra beauty to the look of the tree. I love the look of this burlap ruffled No Sew tree skirt and am really keen to try it out!
Just for a little bit of fun! If you have a staircase and kids in the house, these sliding penguins are such a cool idea! Decorate the banister with some white Christmas lights and the white fleece material. Then glue the penguins with Santa hats onto the fleece and it looks like a whole lot of fun every time you walk up and down the stairs!
What are some craft ideas you have for Christmastime? I’d love to hear of any good ones you have made!
