A couple of months ago I did my very first Bossy Cosmetics order which included me purchasing my very first coffee scrub. I was a bit apprehensive at using this for the first time as I had never used a coffee scrub before and heard it could be messy. Bossy’s coffee scrub had been on my radar for a while before hand as it had been hyped up a lot by my fellow beautiholics and beauty bloggers Kristelle.M.Beauty and Lutece from Makeupforpandas. I had seen lot of reviews of other coffee scrubs said that they didn’t do what they promised they would apart from being a good exfoliator. So you can see why I was a bit apprehensive when I saw all the amazing, raving reviews of Bossy’s Coffee scrub. Also as a barista I wasn’t too sure if I wanted to smell like coffee at work, after work and after showering.
Let’s just say my opinion changed when I started using it. The scrub is very grainy and a bit coarse like you would expect coffee to be. However the real winner is the amazing caramel, chocolate-mint and coffee smell combination. Every time I go to use this I am drawn in straight away by the sensational smell and am almost tempted to eat. (Seriously though, don’t eat it. I “accidentally” got it in my mouth one day and let’s just say it wasn’t the most pleasant of experiences.)
As I was aware the scrub itself is rather hard to apply. There is no way you are going to be able to put it straight on to dry skin so it is best used in the shower. I like to shower first and make sure my skin is wet. Then I use the spoon provided to get small portions to use on my arms, legs, face and the rest of my body. I suggest adding a little bit of water to the mixture in your hand to make it easier to rub all over your skin. Using gentle circular motions I move my way up from my feet to make sure I have covered every bit of skin that needs attention. Be very gentle when rubbing it into your face and any areas where you have stretch marks as you don’t want to irritate those more sensitive areas. Leave it on for about 5 minutes to dry and then just wash it off.
Now here is one of the most surprising and amazing parts of the scrubs helpful properties. When you wash it all of it leaves your skin feeling very hydrated, extremely smooth and so soft you just can’t help feeling your skin. This has a lot to do with all the wonderful, luxurious body butters that they use in the scrub.
Bossy Cosmetics Coffee scrub for Body and Face claims to stimulate your blood flow while polishing and plumping skin, smooth lumps and bumps, remove dead skin and moisturise. It works on: cellulite, stretch marks, psoriasis, varicose veins, eczema, acne and scarring using coffee to improve circulation & scrub away dead skin. (Note: it doesn’t say it will miraculously get rid of all these things. It’s not a wonder woman scrub.) The coffee used for the scrub is all organic, and the product itself is 100% cruelty-free and freshly made in New Zealand.
“Just as coffee acts as a mild diuretic when we drink it, the caffeine-rich grounds draw water out of your fat cells, shrinking them so they’re less noticeable.”
It’s been just over 2 months since i bought the Coffee Scrub and I still have a 3rd of the packet left. I only use the scrub once a week or less, mainly to exfoliate my skin. I feel like it really is worth the price you pay, as $16.99 is rather affordable when compared to other coffee scrubs on the market. Plus it’s hard not to pick up a few of Bossy’s other wonderful Bath and Body goods which makes it easy to get over the $50 threshold for Free Shipping in New Zealand and Australia. I actually bought the scrub during as sale for only $10 and totally regret not buying 2, but even at $16.99 I am still keen to buy more!
The card like paper on the outside of the packet can be a bit hard to keep in good condition, especially if you have wet hands when using the coffee scrub. However, this doesn’t mean moisture is getting into your scrub as the inside is foiled with the coffee scrub in a separate, resealable, plastic bag. If you are getting a bit annoyed with the outer packaging I suggest transferring the plastic bag, with the scrub, to a clip-lock container that you can keep in your bathroom.
In terms of the Coffee scrub actually doing what it claims to do, I think I ca easily give it an A+. When using it i can definitely feel the coffee stimulating my blood flow and see the dead skin cells have been removed. My skin is ALWAYS so SOFT and SMOOTH after I use the scrub, so another tick for Bossy’s Coffee Scrub there. It’s effect on my stretch marks does not by any means get rid of it but the stimulation of blood flow in those areas has definitely helped with a decrease in their visibility, as well as helping the newer ones fade to silver faster. I don’t have highly sensitive skin so I am not sure what it would be like for those who do have sensitive skin. I can, however, say that it doesn’t have any harsh chemicals and is fine on my slightly sensitive skin on my face.
I would totally recommend purchasing Bossy Cosmetics Coffee Scrub if you are looking for an in-shower exfoliator which also moisturises and softens your skin at the same time. You can buy it online at Bossy Cosmetics online shop and I would totally recommend trying out a few of their other bath product, and most especially their makeup brushes. I have absolutely loved using it and have even siphoned a few small tester containers to my best friends to get them hooked on it too!
